Many of the professional teachers and staff members have been at Laurel Heights for more than twenty years. All Laurel Heights Weekday School teachers have appropriate credentials for teaching in an early childhood setting. This includes holding an Associate’s or Bachelor’s/Master’s degree, certifications in Early Childhood Education (ECA), and credentials as a Child Development Associate (CDA). Additionally, our teachers supplement their skills throughout the year by attending professional development classes, workshops, and seminars.
Each classroom has a lead teacher who has the primary responsibility of the education of the children in that group. The lead teacher has an education degree or an early childhood certificate called a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA). The assistant teachers have, at the minimum, have a CDA or a CDA equivalent, which is at least 12 college hours in child development/early childhood education.
In addition to lead and assistant teachers in each classroom, we also have support teachers and teachers for our Chapel, Music, Spanish, and Motor Skills classes. Our support staff consists of several teachers who serve as substitutes, allow for lunch breaks, and are used for extra support when needed. Each of our enrichment teachers have extra training and coursework in the specified area or areas in which he or she teaches. Please feel free to view our classes and learn more about each teacher.
