Infant Class

Warm and responsive care is provided for the children in the Infant Class. Schedules are adjusted according to the child’s individual sleeping and eating patterns. A variety of toys and books are provided for indoor activity. Additionally, your infant will be exposed to various opportunities to develop both fine and gross motor skills. Some activities include tummy time, developmentally appropriate floor exercises, stacking blocks and other items, and learning how to play with different sized balls. Your infant will be exposed to emergent language development and literacy skills through read-alouds, singing, finger plays and chants, and engagement in conversation. The children enjoy outdoor walks in the 6-baby wagons and are introduced to nature and other outdoor surroundings. As the children become more mobile, they can enjoy the Infant/Toddler playground. The Enrichment Classes, Spanish and Music, are provided twice a week in the Infant room.

Our Infant lead teacher is Rachel Martinez and the assistant teacher is Renee Style.

My name is Rachel Martinez and I am from San Antonio. I have a CDA credential, a one-year technical certificate and an Associate of Applied Science from San Antonio College. Currently, I am attending school and working towards my B.A.A.S. I have worked with young children for over 16 years. I am starting my 10th year at Laurel Heights. I started as an assistant teacher in the Toddler Class, then an assistant in the Two’s. I have been the lead teacher in the Infant Class for more than 5 years.

I enjoy working with young children and feel like Laurel Heights is my second family. The thing I enjoy most working in the Infant Room is being a part of each child's development and working with the families to reach their individual goals. I believe a strong foundation reflects the outcome of a child's abilities and accomplishments.

I have been married for more than 20 years and have three wonderful daughters.

    Infant Assistant Teacher

My name is Renee Style; I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas.  I have completed numerous hours in Early Childhood Development, including the Texas School Ready Program; a three year course sponsored by UTSA.

I have worked with preschool age children for over 17 years.  I am the Assistant Teacher in the infant room.   I am also new to the Laurel Heights family.  This career move has truly been a blessing and I feel like I’m home.

The best part of my day is seeing the excitement in the children when they learn or do something new.  I love being a part of that; I have a passion for teaching.

I’ve been married for almost 25 years; we have “his, mine and ours”, six children altogether.  We also have 8 grand children ranging in age from 2 years old to 17 years old.  I love spending time with my family, cooking, traveling and helping those in need.
